The Problem: Traditional wound cleansing with saline, antibiotic solutions and even antimicrobials is ineffective at removing wound coatings, debris and especially complex Biofilms. Bacteria can create an (EPS), Extracellular Polymeric Substance to shield the Biofilm from outside chemical and mechanical threats.
Prontosan® has a combination of two powerful ingredients that work together to maximize the effect of cleansing and decontamination. The combination of the two ingredients has a lower surface tension than each ingredient alone, and a lower surface tension than saline, which allow for more effective removal of wound debris.
Betaine is a safe and incredibly effective surfactant which is able to penetrate, disturb, clean and remove wound coatings. Betaine also contains infectious material preventing recontamination.
PHMB has a powerful antimicrobial effect without being cytotoxic. In fact, PHMB is proven to be supportive for wound healing. PHMB is safe and has been in use for over 60 years and has shown no bacterial resistance.
